六月假期已降至，感觉上终于可以松一口好久没松的气了。

这半年来感触很多，这感觉真的是我无法以笔墨所能形容的。

从假期开始以来，思绪不断，对于家人、对于好友、对于感情、对于工作，心情总是不能够定下来。

这个假期，和几位同事朋友约好到台湾去。这是我第一次到台北，感觉突然兴奋了起来。真想见一见台湾的歌星、明星！

如果任何同学曾经到过台湾，介绍我一些旅游胜地！我会在这个星期四，9号出发，14号回来。

真是迫不及待地想见一见，我喜欢的其中之一的歌星，周杰伦！

难得是个公共假日，劳动节嘛。。。就是要多劳动？

不然应该改成“免-劳动节”才对！

真是难得我能够喘口气，来写一写日记。SA1 即将来临，但同学们似乎没有定下心来准备考试，真是急死我了！

我这段日子在想，同学们了解我们当老师的苦心吗？

白色情人节的来源：——

The History of Saint Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day started in the time of the Roman Empire. In ancient Rome, February 14th was a holiday to honour Juno. Juno was the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess of women and marriage. The following day, February 15th, began the Feast of Lupercalia.

The lives of young boys and girls were strictly separate. However, one of the customs of the young people was name drawing. On the eve of the festival of Lupercalia the names of Roman girls were written on slips of paper and placed into jars. Each young man would draw a girl's name from the jar and would then be partners for the duration of the festival with the girl whom he chose. Sometimes the pairing of the children lasted an entire year, and often, they would fall in love and would later marry.

Under the rule of Emperor Claudius II Rome was involved in many bloody and unpopular campaigns. Claudius the Cruel was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues. He believed that the reason was that roman men did not want to leave their loves or families. As a result, Claudius cancelled all marriages and engagements in Rome. The good Saint Valentine was a priest at Rome in the days of Claudius II. He and Saint Marius aided the Christian martyrs and secretly married couples, and for this kind deed Saint Valentine was apprehended and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off. He suffered martyrdom on the 14th day of February, about the year 270. At that time it was the custom in Rome, a very ancient custom, indeed, to celebrate in the month of February the Lupercalia, feasts in honour of a heathen god. On these occasions, amidst a variety of pagan ceremonies, the names of young women were placed in a box, from which they were drawn by the men as chance directed.

The pastors of the early Christian Church in Rome endeavoured to do away with the pagan element in these feasts by substituting the names of saints for those of maidens. And as the Lupercalia began about the middle of February, the pastors appear to have chosen Saint Valentine's Day for the celebration of this new feaSt. So it seems that the custom of young men choosing maidens for valentines, or saints as patrons for the coming year, arose in this way.

Even though the history of Valentines Day is unclear, it has become one of the most popular holidays among lovers and florists! The common symbols of Valentine’s Day in this era are cupids, hearts, roses, teddy bears, and words of adoration. Children exchange valentine cards decorated with current comic and cartoon icons. Adults have continued this tradition of card giving which makes this day, behind Christmas, the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. Cupids with bows and arrows represent Roman mythology. Cupid was the son of Venus, the goddess of love. The shot of the arrow would strike the unsuspecting desired person or god, making him fall in love.

The history of Valentine’s Day began in the era of courtly traditions. The stories of how women were wooed by grand gestures of gallantry flourish in romance novels of today. We all wish to be desired -- to be loved and accepted.

秋天的落叶即将凋谢完了。。。

师生的日子也即将到一个段落，这两年的“演出”也即将落幕。

喜、怒、哀、乐，都尝尽了。。。

有些同学问我：“老师，你会不会哭？”

我笑着问道：“我为什么要哭呢？”

“我们将要毕业了、要离开学校了，你不会感到难过、伤心吗？”

“不是你们应该哭吗？不是你们放不下小学生涯的回忆吗？我应该戴着笑容送走你们，祝愿你们在学业上再攀高峰，我的任务也就圆满结束了。。。”

天下没有不散的筵席。。。

just finish my umpteen times of In-camp reservist training couple of days ago, and off i set go to Pulau Ubin yesterday with Mr Lee, Mdm Chung, and many other teachers for a 1-day get-away...
Cycled to Chek Jawa, took a look over there... came back to near the Jetty to have dinner.
after that we had to cycle back with only 1 torch light when it's dark and the sun has set. bumpy along the way, really hurt the butt...
at night, talk about the current school life, as the other teachers updated me what happened when i was away for 3 weeks. following that are some GHOST STORIES some teachers shared.. gradually, some fell asleep.
eventually morning came, and we had to check out and head for the jetty !!! no queue thou...
i forgot to bring my camera, if not can upload some of the pictures here... :)

PSLE results to be released on 25th Nov, if i'm correct... getting on my nerves...

saw Qiwei and Jian Hong the other day when i went over to Bedok Green Sec to participate in Ultimate Frisbee Inter-school competition.
RSS scored in every game (there are 4 games total) !!! and all lost by big margins like, 5-1, 6-1 etc. enough said.

today is 2nd day of PSLE, Math paper. done and good. tomorrow is 3rd day, Chinese Language.

每年5月，都是我最忙的时候，错过了Jia Xin，Gracie, Jia Chen, Luka 的生日，真得很抱歉。

真不巧，今年6月，又是举行4年一度的世界杯，让我拭目以待。一时之间，我又错过了Rachel, Crystal, Zhung Yik, Brenda, Zheng Yan, Eliss 的14岁生日。。。可是，有没有人约“我”和“李san”去任何的集会。。。No gathering????

转眼间，世界杯也接近尾声了，决赛——荷兰vs西班牙，又是在星期一凌晨现场直播，真是气炸了、气炸了、气炸了！！！怎么看？！？！算了。。。

你们自己最近的生活，尽管在这里留下一些字迹吧！！

时光飞逝，已经有好一段日子没有上网更新这个“死镇”了。
我也错过了惠君、昱宇和轩玮的生日。劲諹的生日也刚过去了。

我似乎还在沉睡着，不愿意苏醒过来。看来大家的年中大考也即将来临了，都有在为考试而作好充分的准备了吗？

It's good to see u guys last Friday, since Children's Day last year. I missed out the so-called gathering during the Dec holidays, organised by Gennie once again. 真的要感谢她！！
For those who stayed till late afternoon, i have given out 红包 to them！For justyne and a few others who went off early, we will see when i can give something to u all again !

seldom did we see someone with TORN PANTS, someone who was wrestled down on the ground during a gathering, people doing standing-broad jump during a gathering too, someone boasting about how many BOYFRIENDS she had in like, 1/2 year?
and thank Leroy for his racist jokes, and Jiachen for his YELLOW jokes, lucky i managed to escape before he started.
I was surprised, and happy that, Grace seemed to remember how to speak Mandarin! 可能不是我作为你的小学华文老师的功劳，但是我感到很欣慰。再接再厉！

Although we have moved on, have our own group of friends in secondary school, but we would always remember who were always beside us in P5-4, and those were always with us, studying together, giving one another mental support during the worst part of PSLE exam period in P6... Cherish all these friends, as u may not find them again elsewhere...

转眼间，大家都已经升上中二了。

仿佛大家在11月假期回到学校，

2009即将落幕。。。
希望大家所有的感慨、失望、伤感、担忧，都会跟着这一年的终点随风而去。
大家的假期过得还充实吗？
有的到国外度假：台湾、泰国、欧洲、日本、澳洲、美国等；
有的参与教会的任务活动；
有的得经常会到学校去参与课外活动；
有的成天呆在家里玩电脑游戏、上部落格写一写日记；
有的成群结队去逛街、看电影，无所不做。

这一些，将会在今夜的来临慢慢地止步。。。大家会为2010年的来临做些准备功夫吧？哈哈。。。
在今夜12点钟，许下一些愿望、和定下一些在新的一年该做的事情吧！

This year's EOY gathering did not turn out really well, maybe due to some problems arising, but please give Gennie and some other classmates the pat on the shoulders for trying their best to organise it.
i do hope the class rapport and cohesion will last, but that will only work if U guys can be MORE forthcoming to help organise any class gathering in future, and not to only rely on 2 or 3 of your friends to do it. Each of u chip in a bit of effort, and i'm sure it will work out well !

p.s. I'll be teaching P6 Innovation (new name! 6年创新班) in 2010, and form class of P4 Alertness (4年灵敏班) !

终于步入少年时期！祝你们生日快乐、学业有成！

刚刚结束回营受训的我，卸下青色的兵装，回到学校的生活中。慢慢地整理桌子上的文件、教材，找到了你们在离开母校前所留下的感言（图画纸，印着全班照的那张，记得吗？），读了一会儿，回味无穷。
转眼间，匆匆的2009年已到了一个段落，你们这群小瓜已经展翅高飞，迈向你们人生的下一个目标。毕业了一年，相信你们也感慨万端，回头只能回味，可还是要向前继续走，展开你们学习生涯中的下一个阶段！

我的下一个阶段也即将登场，那就是2010年的6年级班！
该歇一歇了。。。

ps. Shannon has asked for a gathering on 16th Dec, Wednesday.
Time: 12pm - for lunch.
Venue: Tampines Mall Seoul Garden (negotiable), some requested to have BBQ food..
followed by suggested item: movie at Tampines.
After that, cycling or rollerblading in East Coast Park.
lastly dinner at East Coast Food Centre, or Big Splash that side, or MacDonald's. Gathering to end about 7plus to 8pm.

Hi 6/4 '08,

Gennie is organising the class gathering -aka- chalet. i proposed to her that it would be better to get Downtown East as there are more facilities there, eg. WW wet, movies etc etc....

it would be a 3day-2night stay. @ $390 for non-NTUC members and @ $300 for members. most weekdays are available. Surprising.

2nd group who will come on the BBQ evening (1st night most likely), this group will mainly pay for the BBQ food and drinks.

The BLOG is not dead. Do not worry.
人在、部落格在；人亡、部落格依然在。

Suddenly all the flashbacks of you all taking the PSLE exams flooded into our memories. The intense last minute revision, the frantic "hair-pulling exercise" at home, parents' eagle eyes staring and parrot mouths rumbling away.

1 week later, everyone heaved a sign of relief.

I had just finished that part, marking. now SA2 for the rest of the school. 1 week of "no-school-self-revision-means-no-teacher-to-nag-at-me" period for the pupils, got its pros and cons. surely the CONS outweigh the PROS, for us teachers would probably think that the pupils will not have the perserverance to revise on their own at home. but what to do?
Just hope and pray? Period.

Anyway, a Happy very-belated 13 Birthdays to Shane (3rd), Charlotte and Shannon (both 9th)... so, so, so sorry to miss it out on the beginning of October. Hope u guys will achieve good results for your 1st secondary school SA2.
Happy 30+++ Birthday to 李-san too!!! wish u the best for any endeavours coming your way...
did not manage to get anything for u, friendship should suffice, right? It's PRICELESS.... haa...

fast and furious (term 3)

I tried to post last week when the computer got "hanged". 天啊！！我好不容易才想到一个主题，现在已经忘到干干净净了！！！

Anyway, happy belated Teachers' day to me and other fellow colleagues... I wanted to thank those former pupils, aka active members of this faithful blog, for visiting Yours Truly, and 李-san and other teachers who had taught u all in your 6 years of adolescence...

I was saying to some of u guys, that maybe 15 years down the road, when most of u should have graduated from Poly or Uni, will u all coming back to visit us, when i may be already suffering from amnesia. At that point of time, i may have to ask, "you are...??"

When 李-san told me that people have fond or longlasting memories of stuffs that comes 1st, like 1st love, 1st pet etc... i guess the affection is there for u all as my 1st batch of PSLE graduates. It really feels like you all are putting on the 四方帽, receiving the Certificate, and i will be there helping to take pictures of yourself, and maybe pictures with me...

10,000 hits!! Although not much have been posted per month, but i still find much condolences from the comments left by you guys.

i dont have much to update this month, due to the hectic school term, plus bowling competition has just ended, i am much like a walking corpse around the Bedok area.

have gone to the NE show this year. although the fireworks are not as fantastic as the last 2 years, the whole theme was as interesting as ever. it was like, going through Singapore's his-story...
i will find time to post the pictures taken during the NE show, and maybe the photos of the P5 camp held in Sembawang...

H1N1 July rush...

Since the start of school in term 3, H1N1 has been around our lives. Loads of common terms pop up like nobody's business: fever, cough, flu, temperature, trigger, overseas, Bangkok, absent, phone numbers, declarations, no sharing, N95 masks, thermometers, hospitals, CDC, 993, staying at home etc.
primary schools have been quite affected, with many of the sports CCAs being held during this period, some postponed, some carried on. parents allowed to go, parents NOT allowed to go, parents ALLOWED to go... i think we had done our best as a country to keep the virus quiet, but we are to populated, and thus it had to start somewhere... i sincerely hope the matter will blow over soon.
Coming to our July.. Siok Hwee is the lucky winner today, 17th July !!! Happy 13th birthday ! wishing u all the best in your studies... so friends, bomb her handphone pls !!

Leroy's birthday on the 22nd !!! the "kechil one", please join the drama club in school... people will enjoy your show, surely...
Weng Yew's birthday is the 25th, a Saturday... so good, can enjoy it fully...

something to learn from ....

Yesterday was an eventful day with a okie agenda, leroy and jiachen met up with qiwei and gennie in the EARLY morning to play as planned. followed by elisabeth, charlotte, grace meeting them to go Escape themepark to ...... sweat. lastly yuqian and siok hwee and me met up with them to catch a movie followed by dinner...

so i came up with the following for u all to learn:-

1) when u go out with people who had just sweat for a couple of hours without a bath, be prepared to pinch...
2) screaming is not allowed in eHub, or other shopping centres.
3) pls count the number of heads before buying tickets. do not buy MORE or LESS.
4) do not ask a teacher to sit beside an empty seat, esp when watching a horror show.
5) do not use handphone to talk in cinema, and of course DO NOT turn on the camera light !! some GENNIE-ous person did that.
6) pls watch the movie intently, don't waste the money. do not listen to mp3 and ask for earpiece!!

from the movie:-
7) do not bully any elderly, esp one who put on contact lens on 1 eye only, and has dentures.
8) do not eat too much sweets, do not be greedy, if not, your teeth will drop at an early age.
9) be on the lookout at the carpark when u see your enemy's car. main thing is, don't drive.

when we are out of the cinema, the guys found out that rachel, brandon, justyne, zhengyan, sean and a couple of others were there at the eHub too, but we did not get to meet up. the usual party people like Felicia, Wendy, Brenda, Yumei, Shannon, Shane, Yuchuan, Shantian, Jiaxin etc etc did not make it... esp Shannon the organiser... haa...
as a form of "punishment", Shannon will be the main organiser for Dec holiday gathering. YEAH... feel free to choose your committee members. anyway, i think Shannon would not drop by to see this post (sigh). those who feel can lend a helping hand, feel free to volunteer. I volunteer Gennie.

exams now in RSS.. going by a week earlier compared to last year... most of the teachers will be busy marking this week, so do not bother to drop by, seriously.

Oranje Alert, mates... throughout singapore now. do NOT take it lightly. my guess that it will be more intensified than the earlier HFMD period. months of April and May are the 'HOT' months of the year, so virus tend to spread faster and easier. thus my guess is that, if u want to drop by to visit the teachers in RSS, u will be shown the door.

and please... pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease try to avoid crowded, indoor places if possible. carry tissues wherever u go, just in case u need it. for your info, many pharmacies in singapore have thermometers, face-masks, alcohol swaps and other sanitary stuff sold out. SOLD out. can u imagine that...

i hope this alert for H1N1 flu virus (Influenza A virus) would be over soon. we are taking precautionary measures sooner than last year's HFMD, so please.......

March holidays are practically over, so lazy bums, pls start on your homework now, whoever reading this post, finish it and close the IE or Modzilla window and stop lazing around !!! hoho...

Same for me, more or less marking is done over the whole week.. can u imagine that? half of my mind during marking for the past 3 days had been on the National Age Group championship (NAG) held during this March holidays. in the end i guess the championship is considered fruitful to me, as i guessed some bowlers learnt more than just getting points and trophies, but also learnt to be patient, not to turn temperamental, not to give up HALFWAY, and do it AS A TEAM.

Seriously, the whole team has come so far now, i have to agree with Coach Alvin that the bowlers are standing a good chance of winning a few titles this year. NAG, to me, has been considered a tournament to show other bowlers what we, Team RSS, can do. of course, we will see more skilful bowlers in the coming Interprimary Championships.

Rachel Chan & Jiamun coming in 4th for Doubles,

Ryan, Mingxuan & Shaun coming in top 12 for All events,
Charmaine, Lorraine & Jiamun coming in top 8 for All events,
Charmaine came in 2nd for Masters finals.

i want to congratulate the winners for doing very well, and also the rest of the competitors who had taken part in it... thou they have not won anything, they have learnt from the experience competing with outstanding bowlers from other schools or organisations. it was surely an eye-opener for our P4 bowlers, Donovan, Jin Ron and Cavan. do not be disheartened by your own scores. keep up the effort and im sure the results will improve, i can guarantee that.

lastly but sadly, there are a few bowlers, who did not learn the above-mentioned phrases, or who have forgetten about Coach Alvin's words. why is there the pessimism, the giving up after 1 or 2 games?

1 lesson learnt:
Ryan Loo (not from our school), is Rock Bottom of Masters after 2 games, 116 and 110, and he needs to play 8 games consecutively. tiring right, u must have thought so. he came back roaring with guts to fight on, scored
171 180 163 127 158 172, and eventually come in 3rd in Masters. what does that mean??

why is there the internal competition, "i want to win my fellow bowler friend" kind of attitude still lingering around in Team RSS? are we not supposed to be ONE team ???

2nd lesson learnt:
there are 2 fishes in a small pond, they were competing who is the faster swimmer. A, who won by a short distance, was proud of his record. on the other hand, B lost, and was so sad he wanted to give up train his swimming. A did not want to teach B the technique, so B gave up soon after.

so one day, A wanted to go to the big ocean to challenge other sea creatures, so he pulled B along. he was thinking, even if i lose, im still not the last, B is behind me. once inside the ocean, they were overwhelmed by other sea creatures. they just use their might to swim, caring about their own safety. In the end, both A and B were eaten up by faster, and ferocious Sharks.

the pond is like RSS, the ocean is like Interprimary Championships. and the sharks? other stronger bowlers from other school, of course.
Moral of the story? You figure it yourself.

it's the holidays now, so do pick up the papers and keep yourselves updated with the local and current news... it will also help in your homework with newspaper cutting-review. for chinese papers, i would recommend 联合早报 for the whole of this week, since u are not going to school most of the days. i have recommended to elisabeth to get the Monday papers during schooldays if u do not have the time to read the papers, usually monday publishing would have the most news.. or that's what i thought.

back to holidays, it's the holidays!!! it's time to catch our breaths, check on the past 2mths' work and reflect on ourselves, and most importantly, relax and catch up with friends... for me, National Age Group has been moved forward from the usual June holidays to this March. Preparation has been bit of rush, due to me reporting back to GREEN, camouflaged environment for the past 10 days. luckily the coordination has not been affected, and the pre-competition training has been relatively smooth..
so i would wish those who went to take part in the Novice challenge yesterday to have done their best, keep the momentum up for the coming NAG...

and also not forgeting, our March birthday pair, Chermaine and Tommy, who will be celebrating during this holidays. wishing them the best 13th birthday, all the best for their coming SA1 and results further on...

common tests are all around these 2 weeks for u all... so put in your best effort. but i can understand that since its the 1st exam that u all took in secondary school, i guessed it brought memories of 5/4'2007 CA1 when 17 of 39 of u all fail HCL paper... come to think of it, i was breaking cold sweat when i look thru all the papers !!!!

anyway to keep it short, i would want to wish my 5/3 pupil, Xin Ern a happy 11th birthday TODAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!! work hard for yourself, have no regrets coming into this class... enjoy your weekend!!

sleep. i just went into a marathon unconscious state of 12hrs+++, and waking up feeling heavy-headed and drowsy.

food. missed my mom's cooking (the food) for CNY reunion dinner. once every year i got to eat that only.

sorry for not updating since the opening of the new year... been busy with school activities.. like getting to know the pupils in my 2 new classes. the pupils are also trying to know one another too as they are new too... as a form teacher, i've got other admin work to do with my form class, pri 3/8. PE is now quite different for the 1st couple of months due to the change from House system to the inter-class system, so i've to do early-stage selection by myself. recruitment of bowlers are quite tough now.. with the p3 pupils so active.. *sigh*

5) at "details", select "Settings" --> "install services" --> add "Chinese PRC"--> keyboard, choose "Chinese Simplified Microsoft Pinyin IME 3.0"
6) go to "Key settings" --> "Preferences"--> "switch between input languages" Left Alt + Shift (don't change)
7) click "apply", then "ok" next, just open a Mword file, try it out...

1) bottom right of screen, click on the box with "EN", "show the language bar", then your language bar will pop out.
2) click on "English(US)" and change to Chinese
3) click on "context menu" and go to "properties"
4) choose "general"

不久以前，有两个朋友。一个叫做“猪头皮”，另一个叫做“猪毛”。他们俩时常在一起，去运动时也在一起。他们最喜欢做的事情就是打屁。。。
一天，他们没有事情做，便开始玩闹起来。“猪头皮”开始拉扯“猪毛”的头发，他的头发竟然一根都没有断！“猪毛”便大力地捏着“猪头皮”的脸颊，他竟然一点也不觉得痛！他们俩一个拉扯，一个捏着，谁也不肯放手。俩人试着想要挣脱对方的“猪掌”，看着对方额头冒着汗，不禁开始大笑起来。从此，他们成为很要好的朋友。。。

finally, after 2 hard years of preparation, the obstacle is cleared. ermm... actually half-cleared. there's still the results' part.
since the start of our revision weeks ago, i have been losing sleep... seemed like i was preparing for the exams myself!!! i have not much memories of my own PSLE, it's like, just study and go take the exams... hm....
the past few batches of P6's were quite 'hysterical' during this period, getting stressed up anywhere, anytime. did not see it happen this time.. hohoho... more like the teachers were hysterical.
nonetheless, exams are over, what u all need to do are, pray hard occasionally till the day results are announced. and of course play hard too.

anyway, happy 12th birthday to Shannon and Charlotte. and a belated 5-day happy 12th birthday to Shane, whose birthday triggered off the PSLE.

it is a good time to know your classmates and friends better. before u all are separated...

do not ask me about the title.. just came to my mind. wanted to make this short. im really glad that some (if not many) wanted to take the rest of the lessons seriously. it will be a tough period.
some ask me about having some fun, like watch flashclips, play some games etc, during lesson now. but it is a race against time, and i want to make it worthwhile. we will really have ample time after exams.
i've talked to some of u regarding the attitude in the revision work done. it's a trend formed in recent years, and it does NOT favour the PSLE results of the recent batches of P6s.
so i sincerely hope that, no matter how boring, mind-draining lessons can be for now, just drill it thru this period.

September has always been a rush month, but the birthday boys and girls will not be forgotten.
hard to say about those October guys.. hoho..

still the same old words, if u encounter any problems with your revision, feel free to ask me for time to discuss and go thru, no matter if it's school work or your own tuition work. the teachers are ready to help any time, anywhere. but not in the toilet or bathroom.

how are the results?

result - ain't everything in the world. but it meant alot right now. at this moment.

learn from the mistakes and we moved on.

im quite happy with the overall results for CL paper. eventually im looking at the Progress of learning, and i can confidently say that, other than the occasional mistakes for some sections, most of u are getting the hang of it.
MOST, but not all. so those who felt that your results have deteriorated, get your focus back on track, and u can do it.

other than the occasional supplementary lessons we will be having from Sept holidays onwards, i'll make myself as free as possible in the afternoons for any questions on exams and any related stuff, like your own revision papers, small-group discussion etc. feel free to approach me, but inform or ask me in advance.

i will take this opportunity to wish everyone the best of luck from 9th August onwards. esp my pupils in 6/4. at the end of last year, i was afraid i would not be following u all up from 5/4. i felt so uptight, that i would request for it if the P assign me to teach another class. so at the beginning of the year, i wished everyone to have good luck for the whole year. and i would want to make the wish again, i wanted to give it more strength this time.

there are always highs and lows in life... they come and go. when the 'high' gets to a climax, one would get so focused and think about it everyday, every moment. so when it ended, everything comes toppling down like dominoes... suddenly a goal in life is done, or finished, whatsoever u called it. it may not end as what u might have wanted, but its part and parcel of life.

跌倒了，再爬起来。

the immediate goal now just in front of us is the final exams. everyone has to start the engine again, and focus on the road, because the earlier goal has been completed, the next one has already started. we have to move on to this immediate goal...

不要在同一个地方再跌倒。

we will move on together. no matter what problems we face on this path, there are your family and friends around u. u will not be alone.

hope it's going to be a short post. simple sentences.

1) i got angry when the kids are not listening.
2) im sick for the past week and i tried not to scold.
3) it's a friday afternoon and everyone wanted to go home to rest, including me.
4) not able to do it cos i have to give instructions to alvah for coming tuesday,
5) and instructions for the relief teacher, same time thinking that the kids might 'step on' the teacher when im not around...
6) marking.
7) i felt i've neglected my duties as a teacher for my p4s.
8) i felt i did not do enough to motivate my 1st batch of p6 kids, and my bowling kids, esp the p6s.
9) felt like .... i bluffed myself to write that heading...
10) felt really tired...

Xiamen, China trip...

came back on Sunday evening. tired out, really. but i was really happy that the kids learnt useful stuff over there. i will try to write out a rather brief, or maybe some parts more detailed, account of the whole trip.

27th, day 1

met up with the kids at the airport ard 6plus in the morning. most, if not all, parents were there to send them off. most of them were going overseas 1st time without the company of their families. after the plane took off, some of them began to "ooooh- wahhhhhh" at the in-the-sky scenery. after touch-down, we proceeded to 鼓浪屿, an off shore island which is famous for its antique pianos owned by famous musicians. it was quite hilly, have to walk up and down slopes. there is this 菽庄花园 and 钢琴博物馆, which i mentioned earlier. along the way i started taking pictures of the road signs on the island. sudden interest. haaa... after that we proceed back to mainland to a restaurant for dinner. after that, we check in to Xiamen City hotel, and lights off at 2200hrs sharp. most of them fell asleep after unpacking and a good hot bath.

28th, day 2

morning call at 6.45am, and breakfast followed at 7.30am. got on the coach and proceeded to 群惠小学, which is about 20min ride from the hotel. the kids were separated into different Pri 5 classes to attend lessons while the teachers went for a meeting with their school's Principal. their 1 period is 40min, which after that they will have a 10min toilet break. the local kids will go home for lunch and come back to school for lessons at ard 2.30pm.
the local kids really observed their discipline in class. when the teacher talks, there's only 1 voice. and they raised their hands keenly, waiting to answer the questions, and the way they greet the teacher, their voices can bring the whole building down. some of our kids mentioned during lunch that WE really needed to learn from them, the discipline and everything.

we came back after lunch to attend ink painting lessons, 水墨画. after that we went to Overseas Chinese Musuem. there are lots of the miniature ships, which showed how the Chinese came to SEA and other parts of the world.

we were told that tonight the school will be celebrating their Children's Day, and will bring out the theme on Beijing Olympics, but there was a sad note on what happened in Sichuan following the major earthquake weeks ago. the local TV station was down to shoot the whole celebration! we were on TV! after that on our way back to hotel, our kids mentioned the local kids were very vibrant in their performances, and they were very patriotic. i saw some of them and their teachers were trying to hold back tears when a teacher from the affected area in Sichuan was invited to give a speech. i, too, was emotionally affected.

29th, day 3

morning call and breakfast as usual, followed by going over to 群惠小学 for 2nd day's lesson, which is also our last day here. our kids and theirs exchange souvenirs and gifts before lunchtime and my 'dear' Jackson got a bagful of them.. haha... mischievous kids always got the most attention, don't they? lunch as usual at a nearby restaurant, and we came back for Handicraft lessons. the kids were very interested in doing origami, and folded many during the lesson.

it's time to say goodbye, and we had some group photos with their individual classes, and 1 of our boys was like mobbed by their female classmates... haaaa...

after that, we went to shop at 1 of the biggest bookshop in Xiamen (i guess). there were 5 storeys full of books and IT gadgets. imagine 1 floor was the size of Taka's Kinokuniya. (maybe i was exaggerating) the kids return to our meeting place at the ground floor after buying their books and we proceed to have our dinner...

30th, day 4

today breakfast slightly earlier than usual, as we had to take a 1hr plus ride to Jimei village to 集美小学 to attend the morning lessons. the village had a more modern look than i thought it to be. but the facilities are about the same as earlier school we went to. the kids were more rowdy here, to be honest. it did not leave a deep impression as the previous school did on the kids. lunchtime, we walked over to the nearby affiliated secondary school canteen to have our meal.

after that we went to visit Tan kah kee's former residence when he stayed in Xiamen. he's a overseas chinese philanthrophist who put his hard-earned money into building schools and hospitals at whichever country he went to. Jimei affiliated schools (from pre-school to Uni are all Jimei!) were set up due to his financial help... after this we decided to drop by his tomb which was near a park besides the sea. suddenly it began to rain, and it was such a heavy downpour. we had no choice but to stop our sightseeing and proceed back to the hotel to have a change of clothes and get ready for dinner. we dropped by the Tea-house to buy some tea and we were introduced to the different kinds of tea that the country grew and export to other countries. Bought some brands of tea, and the kids got a pee-pee clay doll (really lol). i got a couple too.

after dinner, we were brought to 中山路 to shop. the guide told us its equivalent to our Orchard rd, but its seems more likes Chinatown, Smith street. sigh.. got some bargain buys, so i shall not complain so much.. haha..

5) at "details", select "Settings" --> "install services" --> add "Chinese PRC"--> keyboard, choose "Chinese Simplified Microsoft Pinyin IME 3.0"

6) go to "Key settings" --> "Preferences"--> "switch between input languages" Left Alt + Shift (don't change)

7) click "apply", then "ok"next, just open a Mword file, try it out...

1) bottom right of screen, click on the box with "EN", "show the language bar", then your language bar will pop out.

2) click on "English(US)" and change to Chinese

3) click on "context menu" and go to "properties"

4) choose "general"
a) input mode ------> Full Pinyin
b) conversion -------> Sentence
c) user function ------> tick BOTH boxes
d) candidate options -----> row style, click "prompt step by step"

it means the week-long holidays are coming... some will be going overseas, some will be staying in s'pore, etc.. some might be getting worried about results... RESULTS... how good or bad u have done for CA1, u have to answer to yourself. YOU YOURSELF. congratulations to those who have maintained or improved your scores, based on last year's aggregates. for pupils who felt your results have deteriorated, pls reflect on what have been going thru your mind for the past 2mths.

as you are in pri 6 this year, the standard has definitely gotten higher, which means u need to have deeper knowledge and better analytical skills to tackle your schoolwork. schoolwork, homework and studying may not be all that u want your time to be taken up with, but u MUST GET INTO GEAR FAST AND EARLY. BE MORE CONSISTENT IN YOUR WORK. that's what most teachers wld want u all to do. you only have 1 chance to get past that PSLE this coming Oct. take it, as there wont be another time anymore.

it's the P6's first exam of the year, and it's the crucial period as everyone will be trying hard to get back what they had learnt the previous year in p5, which set the foundation for PSLE. especially for higher chinese, pls pls pls pls do your best to remember everything which we had learnt last year and built on from there...

so how are the new guys coping with the classroom life of 6/4? i hope the rest of u out there are helping them along... lessons may not be as fun as last year, judging by the times i have flared up just in january, but frankly speaking, my motto of "play hard and work hard" does not really come into terms for u all this year... especially it's your PSLE year. and i want to highlight it's YOURS...

so u have to put in more effort compared to last 11 years of life... and play? better squeeze in a bit here and there while u can...

currently there are not much new stuff for the exams, especially the testing format, but u all have to put in more effort in your paper 1, which is your chinese composition. that's is where your band 1's and 2's will come in... please try to read your textbook more thoroughly and deeper, as i have highlighted in class, u can learn and use quite much from it. and of course, from your peers' essays, they will benefit u all quite a bit. exchange ideas, and writing styles with one another. ask questions in class... but please ask intelligently. post questions here if u need.

anyway please help siok hwee, chermaine, hong xuan and the rest in other subjects, especially maths and english... as they may not yet adapt to mr lee's way of teaching the subjects... request for OUR (the teachers) attention in school, or even after school, if u need help in your schoolwork...

hihi class!! school's started today... i bet some or most of u have spent d holidays well... mixed feelings about 'following' u all up to Pri 6.. it seems like i have been promoted too... haaa.. is it a surprise that Mr Lee and me are following u all to Pri 6?

there are new pupils in class this year. orientate them well, let them know the requirements and demands of the teachers. make them feel welcome in 6/4'2008!! spend some time during january helping them out with schoolwork if u all can... and yah! i forgot to welcome them in here!

Didn't had much to write... was in s'pore all the time, planned to get out of the country but unsuccessful... had some birthday gathering and celebrations going on.. weddings to attend..

time flies... and it as arrived at the last month of the year, and some of u all may be overseas enjoying your holidays... take more photos, will u? and it's the month for the birthdays of the kids youngest amongst their peers born in the same year... i wish u all having some great holidays, get many presents... and buy more P6 assessment books... hahaha

as u all are setting into X'mas period... christmas shopping is not my forte... so im not going to get any for my friends... hohoho... but i've opened my arms, readily to accept presents... enjoy yourselves.. whoever out there reading in here...

got to east coast park again earlier today, rollerblading with my 2 friends... we started at the Lagoon food centre, with wanton mee and braised pig trotters down my stomach... we went on an expedition!! we went eastwards... ended up having the closest view of changi airport, 1st time on rollerblades!!! we didn't manage to finish the whole, newly-laid path... upslopes, downslopes, 'obstacles' like branches, twigs and fruits.. but it's one of my most enjoyable sessions...

i guessed those who turned up on tues had a great time.. cycling, rollerblading, playing a few rounds of football, going into the sea, playing 'water bombs'... and eating the barbequed food, almost full 10 hours of outdoor activities...

a new experience for me to handle the about 1/2 the class in an outdoor situation, but i guess i did fine, didn't i? i learned something new. that is, the current generation of kids are so much different from those of my time. basically u all need to learn to save money, the way u all use the cutlery and plates etc made me feel i can re-use many, many times over. did not realise that those plastic cups u all use are non-recyclable? that's why i want u all to write names on the cups so that u won't be wasteful, as i see brandon poured a cup of drink, finished it and threw the cup away, most likely without thinking that there might be not enough cups to use later on. and only a few stayed around me when i started the fire. thou maybe they did not pick up the skill straightaway, but at least they should have some idea to do it themselves in future. bbqing the food too, testing whether the food were cooked or not. most of u are down at the beach playing with water.

but i should not expect u all to be able to handle everything on your own, especially when grace was not prepared to have adults around to help out. so with some lessons learnt on organisational skills like this, i guess this time next year, most of u all should be able to do it.

had a great time with u all, but lack of some fun without the presence of alvah, cheuk heng, samuel and the others to be around. so i hope u all will remember this day!!

exams over... beginning of a new term..

exams are finally over for the 5S classes... so u all must be heaving a sigh of relief... anyway, exams are over... but u are surely worried over what results u will get for your higher CL papers... right? what's past is past... so no need to brood over it...

so remember to bring your yellow files, workbooks and spelling books (esp those who did not bring them over the whole week) on Monday... and those who still have your moral ed textbooks and activity book at home, please bring... last thing, the storybook which everyone should have one for the whole year... currently, there is one missing from the mini-library. SO PLEASE CHECK IF U HAVE TAKEN MORE THAN 1 BOOK !!!

anyway, it's the beginning of November... anyone's birthday coming up???

finally, the tedious, hectic week of marking scripts is over... now back to finishing up what i have to mark the homework of Yours Truly... i hope u all have done thorough revision on most, if not all, the subjects... enjoy your weekend...

it's the 1st of Oct, uncoincidentally falling on the long-celebrated Children's Day... hoped u all had done your homework over the weekend and enjoyed it through the additional day off from school. i wished those who are born in Oct to be happy always, be in good health, enjoy going to school, and enjoy doing homework!! haha... i went to east coast park on friday evening for dinner with friends, ended up early and at the wrong side of the whole stretch. eventually i had to blade from the food centre all the way to Ford road exit, where there is a carpark and that is where the rest of the friends park their cars. left my bag in the car... and we blade BACK to the food centre for dinner... halfway my stomach was like growling...
when we reached there, we were like hungry wolves. all ordered the famous duck rice over there. all extra ingredients been sold. so pathetic. still we gobbled down our food.. and make our way to Bedok jetty, which is nearby, to enjoy the seabreeze...
lastly, seen that the time is almost 11pm, we made our way BACK to the car. by then i think the duck rice has been thoroughly digested... but at least i got a ride back from the driver, after a long journey.
really enjoyed the company, we had our laughs along the way... make fun of another at times, while the rest are listening and giggling away... most importantly, the night is great...

weekend is ending soon, how's the homework coming along? anyway regarding the Moral Ed project, i decided NOT TO EXTEND the deadline. those who had done it, i can see there is teamwork in most groups. 3 cheers. those who didn't even bother, u know who u are...

i regretted not asking the group leaders to check with their members.. and i should have ask the leaders to collect the books instead of having u all handing up the books in a messy way... so i sincerely beckon u all will do a thorough search if u had left it at home... i will not blame u but i will need the books back urgently, as i had passed the other 38 books to another class. and definitely someone from that class will not be able to read it due to our mistake, 5/4. i will have to find and buy the books from Popular if i cannot get the 2 back by tomorrow...

it's the 4th and im late in giving my wishes to all those who are born in Sept... all the best in your studies and upcoming SA2, and also in whatever u do and pursue!!

enjoy the 1 week break, but at the same time, don't forget about your homework!! those who need to hand up any work, if u happened to pass by the school, leave it in 5/4 pigeonhole. i will be back most days to do marking and clearing up...

in the midst of this exam period, i don't wish to say this, but i just feel that some of u all are not focused in your revision, judging by your attitude in class. what i can do is wish that u all can pass all papers with flying colours.

if u think u are one of those mentioned by me, please go think over after your exams, as SA2 will just creep by...

got to east coast park this morning... and got myself a pair of rollerblades! wallet is a bit "painful", thou it's worth it, since i've been yearning to get a new one.... when the old pair went "peet-chiah". cheapskate brand of years ago. the models and designs were so ...Wow. i'm outdated by the way... so has to ask for recommendations from the assistant. showed me some models to try on... still clueless after that... had to get my good friend to say a few words. "the colour looks good." that's good enough. paid up and here i go!

it was blazing hot around noon time.. so got to the hawker centre to get my fav duck rice and cooling sugarcane juice... carry on our journey after that. took a break at the Bed-ok jetty to enjoy the see breeze... we went on and reach the end. so we make our way back and guess what?! the dark clouds gather far out near the horizon. thought it might not get to inland so fast.. but suddenly the saltish winds started to blow... got to get faster back... just after i had this feeling, the clouds were above our heads. it came drizzling down, but the winds just got stronger and stronger... how i wished i had a bottle of shampoo with me, so that i can help to advertise for the company... finally got back to the Mac's to change and had a cooling drink...

what a day, had the blazing sun, had the strong breeze, and caught in the rain. what's best is i had a good friend and company during that precious few hours. i don't dare to ask for more. it's great... bwahahaha...

enough of my weekend. so how have u all been doing? if u had time to read this post now, i reckon u have revised for your English, and hopefully your maths, chinese, and science... get ready for it! relax more! (and pls don't heed this kind off ill advice!) all the best and good luck... and i will see u all in class tomorrow...

how to type chinese in PC (for XP or newer version)

for XP users, carry on reading.. for Vista users, u can try it out...

1) go to Start button, then Control Panel

2) then go to Date, time, Language and regional options --> Regional and Language options

3) on top, choose "Languages" --> supplemental language support, tick the 2nd box (install files...)

4) choose "Text services", click "details"

5) at "details", select "Settings" --> "install services" --> add "Chinese PRC"
--> keyboard, choose "Chinese Simplified Microsoft Pinyin IME 3.0"

6) click "apply", then "ok"

next, just open a Mword file, try it out...

1) bottom right of screen, click on the box with "EN", "show the language bar", then your language bar will pop out.

2) click on "English(US)" and change to Chinese

3) click on "context menu" and go to "properties"

4) choose "general"
a) input mode ------> Full Pinyin
b) conversion -------> Sentence
c) user function ------> tick BOTH boxes
d) candidate options -----> row style, click "prompt step by step"

if still not sure, ask me in school. and please spread the word so that your classmates will drop by the blog and get this information...

last night's preview of the performance was a success, in my words. everyone has practised hard during these so many weekends, starting from June holidays. the dancers, the actors sweating behind the stage, trying to memorise their steps and lines respectively... and of course the choir, had to stand all the way. a few girls were feeling sick and dizzy during the last practice that they had to step off and rest a while. *salutes*
i like the orchestra, how they play the musical instruments. so many kinds, but still their music can blend in so well... and not forgetting the Gu zheng, my 1st love at NIE. i initially wanted to learn the flute, but due to the availability, i had to choose gu zheng, and i had to say the music from the strings felt so soothing. i had learnt a few simple songs then, but when i watch my instructor so engrossed in playing some songs, like 笑傲江湖... i was like... Wow... but now being too long without touching one, i have lost all basic skills for it.
so those in gu zheng, keep it up!!! it's a skill that u have been enjoying learning it. so continue to learn more tunes. the rest who are involved in the performance, take a good rest over the weekend. the REAL test will arrive on coming Friday, where all the VIPs and audience will be here. but no worries, just enjoy yourselves and do it.

by the time u all are reading this post, i should be at home resting after being down with flu and other symptoms. from what i gather, MUST BE u all children from 5/4 who go around sneezing in class without covering your nose and mouth. 1st is Mr Lee, then followed by me. MUST BE. MUST BE... MUST BE U ALL......!!!!! bwahahahaha... very, very, very sick... cannot laugh too much. anyway, i wished all the best to Yumei and Yuqian in their preliminary round of the Crosstalk competition for P5. hope to see them get into the finals, which will most likely be held in hall next week. if results of the prelim round is announced today, can someone just post it as a comment in here?

please do your 习字 and learn your 听写 over the weekend. for your 默写，i will give it out next week on monday. apologies for the delay as i should prepare it yesterday and give it out today.

国庆预演到了一个段落，我相信你们都玩得很开心。今年的国庆庆典是第一次在滨海湾举行。我也是第一次见到海、陆、空三军同时同台表演，多姿多彩。当然也少不了精彩的镜头，和玩到乐翻天的同学。在场的学生都会知道那个人就是本班多才多艺的冠贤！！哈哈。。。

after a few months of grueling training at different locations in S'pore, finally the competition has ended today, not counting the few who will be competing in the Masters on Monday. the Pri 6's are considered 'retired' from today onwards. they have gone thru 3.5 years of training together, and as a result, teamwork is formed and friendship has blossomed. whether they have done well themselves or not, they would have some regrets. they had let themselves down at times, they had picked it up and strived to go 1 better.

they have given invaluable infomation and tips to the younger ones on how to bowl better, taught them some right techniques with the aid of the coaches, and supporting the young ones when they are down and out. they have moved on, and in their stride, left behind the tracks for the rest to pick up and carry the burden onward.

Zhan Hong, marcus, michelle, siang min and the rest of the Pri 6's will move on to newer pastures in seconadary schools. whether they continue to bowl in future, that i do not know. seriously. but i sincerely hope that they will keep that fighting spirit burning, no matter what they do, be it in their studies or goals they aim to achieve. i wished for the best for u all. the rest of us will be watching u all leave, and we will pick up and get stronger. i'm sure of that.

those who are reading this post, enjoy what u really want to do. studies, exams... i know it's not easy... focus, and enjoy the process of learning, u will reap in more than what u think u can get.

at times when i see the luxury of u all indulge in what u all can do, i felt so envious... or even jealous... hoho.. time to stop writing...

P5 camp day!

started off with the flagging designing. my group took quite a bit of time to come up with the design before starting to paint it. as i turned my attention away, i took a snapshot of the teachers who were having a light conversation. after the flag was done n taken up to dry, i found the print on the trashbag looks nicer than the flag itself, so i cannot bear to throw it away before i took a shot of it.. hoho. had our meals before we set up our tents.. we had the fishing game.. during the 2nd night, we had our Talent quest finalists putting up a great performance, followed by the 'Star wars' themed costume competition. once again, no prizes for guessing who's the semi-naked boy who was from our class! at night, when u all were asleep, i was walking around the tents where the boys are, i took a snapshot of someone from our class. for more infomation, please ask your beloved monitor! hohohoho.. lastly before setting for home, took a few shots of my group members... say Cheese!!!!

Music & Art Day

The last 2 days of our school involved the music & Art day which i myself enjoyed very much. the last picture show my P4 class at 1 of the stations when i was with them. the other pictures which were taken during the 2nd day, last day of school also. i was the assistant to Mr Robin Lim, who came up with making of mini bookmarks, earring holders and some other items. the P1 kids enjoy themselves very much, especially at the earring holding making station, where Mr Lim himself is there to teach them how to make it. even the student-helpers are 'stealing' the technique when Mr Lim is not watching! hoho... Mr Lim and i were very grateful to the student-helpers, whom some are from the Art club and the rest voluntarily... especially someone from our very own class. no prizes for guessing who is it.. haa.. Leroy had to wait till his mom came to school to look for him before reluctantly leave the classroom. so finally before he left, i managed to take 2 shots of the whole group of us... i guessed that they had never really teached someone like the P1 to do something which is not being taught in the books. once again, to the sudent-helpers, thank you to u all...

考试终于结束了。一些同学漫天欢喜，一些却掉下眼泪。无论如何，年中考试已经过去了，便不用去想太多。但是，我们不能掉以轻心，放松心情。我们还有多半年的时间要去努力，是否能渡过这一关，就要看你们了。

总的来说，全班的成绩进步了。这是我本身能确定的。但是，是不是侥幸（幸运），或者是靠实力的，那你们就只能问自己了。我会尽全力去教你们，同个时间，你们也要配合我，不要再次像这半年一样，犯同样的错。

考试结束了，老师本身也放松了。身体功能一放松，就感觉病魔将要来临。说曹操，曹操就到。终于，在星期一时就病倒了。很明显的，星期二“失声”也不是偶然的。看来，教你们这一班，我还得多锻炼身体，养好身子，来打这下半年的仗。你们呢，也要好好照顾身体，不要在假期时生病，不然就完完全全错过了让精神休息的机会。

请大家要多照顾身体。。。

exams are coming thick and fast... as u all are busy preparing for it.. 1 week has passed... Oral? done. Listening? simple.. Compo? chicken feet.. some of u may say it that way..

but it seems like not everyone is ready for exams... some are still dilly-dallying away.. undone or unfinished work.. making the teachers scratching their heads and pulling their hair..

U ALL ARE THE ONES TAKING THE EXAMS... not us... so please buck up..
schooling is always fun.. that includes studying.. of course.. it depends on what kind of attitude u have towards coming to school.
Examinations are just part of school life where u are tested, not only on your academic abilities, but also your basic communication skills, analysis, and many other skills that u will develop more in your later part of growing-up life..

just think.. P5 camp is coming up... whee!!!
